One of the best things about staying here is the easy access to some of the most beautiful and uncrowded beaches in Kyoto Prefecture. Whether you’re looking to swim, picnic, take in the sunset, or just feel the sand between your toes, there’s a beach nearby for every kind of mood.

Nochigahama Beach – Your Backyard Shoreline

Just in front of the hotel, Nochigahama is our local favorite—a peaceful, sandy cove perfect for a morning swim or an evening walk. It’s rarely crowded, with clear waters and gentle waves, and ideal for those who want a quick and quiet beach fix without having to drive. Bring a towel and a book, or just sit and watch the horizon.

  • Distance: 2–3 minute walk

  • Best for: Easy swims, relaxing & quiet, sunset walks

  • Vibe: Quiet and local

Kotohikihama – The Singing Sand Beach

Just a short drive away south, Kotohikihama is known for its rare “singing sand”—when the sand is dry and clean, it squeaks or chirps underfoot. It’s one of only a few places in the world where this phenomenon occurs. Kids and adults alike love testing it out, and it’s a fun beach to explore for the novelty alone.

  • Distance: ~10-minute drive

  • Best for: Unique experience, families, sandy science

  • Tip: Visit on a dry, sunny day for the best squeak!

Nakahama Beach – Shallow, Safe, and Baby-Friendly

A short drive north,Nakahama Beach is the most baby- and toddler-friendly beach in the area.

The beach has a flat sandy bottom and very shallow water, protected by a breakwater, making it ideal for small children and first-time swimmers.

During the peak swimming season in July and August, a small café opens just by the beach, making it easy to spend a full, relaxed beach day.

  • Distance: ~15-minute drive north

  • Best for: Babies, toddlers, young families

  • Water: Very shallow and calm

Hachohama Beach – Calm for Kids, Waves for Surfers

Just a bit further south of Kotohikihama beach, Hachohama Beach is a spacious, easygoing beach that suits both families and surfers.

Across the bay is Kobama Beach, and in the deeper water between the two beaches you’ll often see surfers waiting for waves as they roll in from the Sea of Japan.

A wavebreaker shelters part of the beach, creating calmer water that works well for children aged around 3 and up. Just behind the sand is a small playground, and the open space makes it a great place for a picnic.

  • Distance: ~15-minute drive south

  • Best for: Families, picnics, beginner–intermediate surfers

  • Water: Calm near shore, more open toward the bay

Yuhigaura Beach – Wide Horizons and Dreamy Sunsets

Roughly 30 minutes by car, Yuhigaura is one of the region’s most popular beach spots, with long stretches of golden sand and famously vibrant sunsets. The beach is perfect for families, joggers, and anyone who enjoys space to spread out. There are also seaside cafés and public footbaths nearby for a full beach-day experience.

  • Distance: ~30-minute drive

  • Best for: Sunset views, long walks, facilities

  • Vibe: Open and lively
